My, my, how life can sometimes do these weird turns.
I have this strange sensation that I have somehow
returned to Shimer, and seeing that I am something like
half way around the globe from Shimer that is very
unusual. So, as it stand now, Lily will most certainly
be hired and we can expect her to start as soon as we get
her diploma back and send her to Japan for a few hours.
After that she will be ready to begin, and we are hopeful
that this will be sometime next week. In the meantime she
is following me around and learning how to teach English
to children which is far different, as she noted, from
teaching children who already speak English. In the meantime she has moved into my apartment and we
are just like a pair of college girlfriends which is
rather pleasant and really allot of fun. We have so much
in common it's almost silly. Not only did we both spend a
great deal of time studying the history of women and
women's sexuality, but we have also read many of the same
philosopher's, lots of the same fiction, and she's a fan
of NPR and misses it as much as I do. Right this minute
Im listening to Morning Edition at 5:00 p.m.
because I miss Bob Edwards, isn't that silly. Aside from all this things are going well, as everyone
is adjusting to the very sudden departure of Jenny. There
was some shifting to cover the little kid class she had
because no one but Sara really enjoys teaching the wee
ones. It's tough to teach really young children English,
especially if their writing ability is minimal. You are
teaching them to write in a way that is totally foreign
to the writing they see all the time. As of this writing, I've had no more new weird Korea
things happen, and aside from finding myself a sort of
impromptu guide for Lily, have been fairly low key. Just
wanted to let everyone know what was up. There should be
a fairly interesting happening next weekend, which is the
big Korean Thanksgiving Holiday that apparently has
traffic jams rivaling only Memorial or Labor day in the
states, and potentially worse as all Koreans are expected
to return to their ancestral home to celebrate. I shall
let you know. |
